1. Briefly explain how business and government represent a clash of ethical systems (belief systems). With which do you find yourself identifying most? Explain. With which would most business students identify? Explain. The two ethical systems (systems of belief) are the individualistic ethic of business and the collectivistic ethic of government (Carroll, 2012, p. 346). Business executives demonstrate frustration with government involvement in business including concerns that policy makers fail to recognize the economics of their industry and government places blame on business for problems in society. In addition, business finds it difficult to discover the best methods to work effectively with government. This relationship continues to be both challenging and complex. There are disagreements among different interest and it becomes more challenging to resolve certain choices and establish social priorities (Carroll, 2012, p. 346). The aspect I most identify with would be the fact that current economic conditions force governments to become more involved in the economy. Collectivistic ethic of government is characterized with the subordination of individual goals and self-interest to group and grou p interests, as well as emphasizing equality of individuals. Business students I feel would identify with the collectivistic ethic of government as well such as emphasizing the equality of individuals. 2.
